Remutaka Rail
Trail

Arguably Wellington’s Best day out on a bike!

…in our unbiased opinion.

25.4km of adventure, sights and a dash of exercise.

The Remutaka Rail Trail traces a historic railway through the Remutaka Ranges. Starting with a leisurely ride across pine covered paths, through long, dark adrenaline spiking tunnels (bring a torch) to an eventual climb to the summit with epic views and a zoom across the Siberia Gully swing bridge. This ride has a bit of everything, it is well sign posted with information detailing the history of the Rail Trail - reading these is the perfect excuse for a break.

Starting point
Kaitoke Summit Rd

Jump on the Remutaka Rail Trail at Kaitoke Summit Road and started pedalling along the pine covered path.

There are a few tunnels along the way, they are quite long and dark so remmeber to bring a torch, especially if you have little ones with you.

There is an awesome photo opportunity infront of the famous waterfall by the Summit Tunnel.

the summit
A great midway point for snacks

Enjoy a pre-packed picnic at the summit before crossing the impressive bridge at Siberia Gully.

Enjoy the speed of the downhill track on your way to Featherston. Once there take a look around the old bus stop and tennis court remains.

Unless you fancy cycling uphill for 7km on your way back to Upper Hutt, we suggest booking a shuttle from Featherston to Upper Hutt with Wild Finder.

MAKING YOUR RIDE EASY
