We visited seven bakeries around Upper Hutt and here is what we found!
A city is only as good as it’s bakeries.
…and we think we’re a pretty awesome city with pretty awesome food.
To prove it we have compiled a list of 7 bakeries from around Upper Hutt to showcase the range of deliciousness we have here.
Corner Bakery
The Corner Bakery is a MUST for all things pastry and doughy in Upper Hutt.
The staff are much loved among the community, always greeting their customers with the biggest smile.
Selling classic pies to divine breads, pastries, scrolls, cakes, slices... we could just go on and on. The best part is that everything is extremely affordable and perfect for the whole family to enjoy.
From freshly baked bread, delicious coffee and cabinet treats, Dough is always filled with scrumptious baked goods for all to enjoy. With a total of five sites across the whole Wellington Region, we are lucky to have three based in Upper Hutt. Grab a coffee and watch the hard labour of bread making at Dough HQ, visit the Doughnut Wagon for some extra treats, or linger in the café at Dough Bakery and enjoy the atmosphere. Take your pick from an impressive menu of toasties and eggs, or from a cabinet filled with freshly made doughnuts and sandwiches.
Silverstream Bakery
Silverstream Bakery has been around since 1992, a staple in the lives of many.
The bakery has grown over the years but there are three items that have remained firm favourites with both locals and those from further afield, steak and cheese pies, custard squares and of course those magnificent cream and jam donuts. Now if you have not tried one you really should.
There is something about good, honest bakery food. Fresh Bun has consistently provided Upper Hutt with all of the bakery staples plus fried chicken, hot chips and wholesome roasts. Also their prices are amazing, especially these days. They are well worth the visit for a quick, cheap tasty treat.
Trentham Pie Shop
We are spoilt for choice in Upper Hutt when it comes to a good pie, but nowhere quite tops Trentham Pie Shop. This is a classic example of ‘if you know you know’ and we almost feel bad exposing Upper Hutt’s best kept secret.
Cake haven
Guyyyys, it’s rude to drool. But we totally get it, Cake Haven does have that effect on people.
Cake Haven is somewhat of a passion project for owners Wendy and Erin. Between them they have an extensive background in cake making and hospitality, as well as floristry - which explains the beautiful presentation.
Jeans bakery
You’re going to get sick of us saying ‘local favourite’ but Jeans truly is …a local favourite. Treat your taste buds to a pain au chocolate, freshly baked croissant, cinnamon scroll, or choose from their selection of pastries, breads and baking. There are also a couple of gluten free and dairy free options, coffee, tea and the locally made Koko Chaud Hot Chocolate. YUM!
